Plain & Simple: Rustic White Bathrooms

We really underused white during our renovation. Now that I am design exhausted, I feel that white would of been the way to go. It’s simple and fitting, especially for bathrooms. The only two “big” projects that we have left are the bathrooms. One have one full-size bath (as full-size as a 1930’s bathroom comes) and a “powder” room. I’m halfway finished with the full bath. I can’t decide what to do with the powder room. We keep changing our minds.

This first bathroom is very nice, very simple. I like its simplicity but I do fear that my “flamboyant” personality will grow tired of this. This really would be my exhausted design choice. I love those beams. Those will never be in this house. Oh, and a bathroom this size will never be in this house either unless I decide to convert a bedroom into a bath. Lame.

The other room is a rustic bathroom. I apologize. I have also forgot where this one came from. This is more our speed. It appears to be a tiny, realistic bathroom. I do like the wainscoting going all the way up the wall. I look as wainscoting as the paneling of today. I do fear that it will be horribly dated. I am considering wainscoting because the plaster in the powder room is well, crumbly and thin. Frink smushes his smushed, flat face against the wall and it dents. We need to come up with something to solve this problem. Anyways, I like this 2nd bathroom because it is so practical. It actually looks like it is lived in and they’ve had to create storage for an older bathroom. David’s solution is to get rid of my skincare rituals. This will never happen. He better be ready to hang up some shelves.

2 Fun, Bold Azure Rooms

Bold blues aren’t colors that I am attracted to for my own living space. I prefer aquas, teals, cyan. I find bold blues hard to work with but I do appreciate them except when they include a black silhouette of a nude past girlfriend, oh, my house. Or what used to be of this house.

House Beautiful bedroom

Here are 2 azure rooms that I do appreciate.

The first is a fun bedroom found in House Beautiful. I love the quirkiness and youth in this room, two adjectives rarely used to describe my living space. This is one of those colorful, fun, “thrift sore finds” rooms. It has luxe textiles, shine from the lamps and bed finish, and lots of fun colors: magenta, fuchsia, chartreuse, violet, not to mention the azure room color. This is one bold but not obnoxious bedroom. I do like the deer but I’m creepy enough to choose a real one…Anyways, I like this room. It’s the kind of room that comes across as bold. If you get sick of that, just change the chair and pillows/textiles and you have a new room. And I love it that such bold colors were used in a small room in a cozy way.

The other room I found on House to Home. I love me some wallpaper but since I spent most of hot August removing wallpaper with the help of a steamer, I doubt I’ll ever do it to my home. So…I like to admire from a distance. This living room is very bold. It has bold blue, prints, and a punch of cerise. I am not a fan of the blue shag rug. It reminds me too much of the blue furry stuff used to cover our kitchen cabinets. I will never ever be able to look at shag the same way again. This also means that I’ll never be able to see blue shag without cringing and puking in my mouth a little.

the 2 largest rooms were painted shades of blue, there was a blue faux fur waterbed, and there were plans to even have denim curtains. This is what happens to a space when testosterone only decorates. Trust me, it is not a beautiful site/sight. Homes are like anything else, they need balance or they just fall down.

Red & Blue Valentine’s Table Setting

Happy Valentine’s day!

I am very happy that the dining nook is 90% finished. We still need to finish one side of the room with shoe molding and to put one of the built-in’s doors on. David says we don’t have hinges, umm, buy some. So, I’m closer to living like a normal person.

A few weeks ago my Martha Stewart wannabe self went out and purchased stuff for our Valentine’s place setting after seeing this setting from marthastewart.com. I love aqua and red together. It is such a retro color combo, very 50’s diner in my mind. I headed out to Target, purchased adorable Greek key printed aqua melamine plates and red melamine bowls (on sale for under $1 a piece). I paired these with my French pink table runner and antique white hobnail milk glasses and vase and candle sticks, and red heart demitasse set. I’m quite the party planner now 🙂 However, I am lacking with the napkins and napkin rings. I never got around to that. I was too busy doing other important things around the house like getting my bathroom in working order and cleaning up plaster dust.

For those of you up to your eyeballs in home renovations, I just want you to know that a table setting may seem like the most useless thing to be putting energy into, but it did make me feel a bit more sane. It made me forget that most of my house is a construction zone. The aqua and red combo districts my eyes from the unfinished portions in the dining nook. I should be gazing into my hubby’s eyes anyways 🙂
